• Install a peephole and use it.
• Use your first initial on mailboxes and in the phone book.
• Do not give out personal information on the telephone.
• Close and lock doors and windows.
• Require identification of repair people.
• Do not open the door to strangers.

IN YOUR CAR

• Keep doors locked at all times.
• Look in the back seat before getting in.
• Have your keys in hand so you don't linger before getting in.
• If you have car trouble, raise the hood, lock yourself in, and wait for the police.
• Do not stop to help a stranded motorist; call the police.
• If you think someone is following you, drive to the nearest public place and blow the horn.

• Avoid men who disrespect women.
• Remember you owe nothing more than "thank you"
  for an expensive dinner.
• Stay sober.
• Avoid isolated and dark places.
• Don't be afraid to scream or cause a scene.
• Walk with confidence; look alert.
• Take a self defense course.
