- Do not disturb anything at the scene of the crime.
- Go to a safe place.
- Ask a friend or relative to stay with you.
- To avoid destroying evidence, do not shower, brush your teeth, or change clothes.
- Notify the police by calling 911.
Reporting assault is not the same as prosecuting;
you can decide later to request prosecution.
- Get medical attention.
You may have injuries of which you are not aware.
- If possible, take a change of clothing with you to the hospital.
- A victim advocate can stay with you, if that is your choice.
- Consider counseling.
